To achieve long term goals of self-sufficiency, the organization seeks to help these mothers by fulfilling their short-term needs, while working towards supporting the services and education necessary for long-term sustainability.
Through a series of educational and cultural urban adventures, participating young moms will learn about the professional opportunities available to them through higher education and career development.
These Mom Dates, whether in the form of a field trip to a local college or an on site workshop from a mom with skills, enhance professional ambitions; foster positive relationships, female leadership and community engagement. Mom Dates are fully sponsored by a month of Project Playdate(s). So, starting December 2013, there will be a new Mom Date with a specific career focus, planned once a month.
Powerhouse NYC Mom Dates encourage the academic achievement and professional development for select young moms from our partner organizations serving the homeless. Each excursion has a lesson plan that encourages curiosity and new ways of learning outside the classroom walls. They are supervised by mentors who are moms, college students and/or young professionals with inspiration to offer or expertise in their industry interests. In the long term, participants can draw from these educational experiences for future school applications, interviews and academic interests. In the immediate, these Mom Dates enhance professional ambitions; foster positive relationships, female leadership and community engagement. Each and every Mom Date focuses on the promotion of academic achievement, strong interpersonal skills, financial independence and community connectedness.
Provided only to candidates that have exemplified initiative, hard work and enthusiasm in the pursuit of their academic and/or professional goals. Our next level of social impact is to sponsor select moms by covering educational expenses ranging from textbooks and individual courses to college semesters and housing.
